Indulge your taste buds with the velvety texture and rich flavour of this Classic Creamy Caramel Flan. This timeless dessert, also known as "flan" or "creme caramel," features a luscious custard base topped with a decadent layer of golden caramel. Follow this easy recipe to create a show-stopping dessert that will impress your friends and family.

Ingredients:

For the Caramel:

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup water

For the Custard:

  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature

  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 can (12 ounces) evaporated milk

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Caramel: a. In a medium saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat. b. Stir the mixture until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and let it come to a boil. c. Allow the sugar to boil, swirling the pan occasionally, until it turns into a deep amber colour. d. Quickly pour the caramel into the bottom of a flan mould or individual ramekins, swirling to coat the bottoms evenly.

  2. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  3. Make the Custard: a. In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs until well beaten. b. Add the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, whole milk, and vanilla extract to the beaten eggs. c. Whisk the mixture until well combined and smooth.

  4. Strain the Custard: To ensure a silky-smooth texture, strain the custard mixture through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into another bowl.

  5. Pour into Mould or Ramekins: Carefully pour the strained custard mixture over the caramel in the flan mould or individual ramekins.

  6. Bake: Place the flan mould or ramekins in a larger baking dish. Fill the larger dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the flan mould or ramekins. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the flan is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.

  7. Chill: Allow the flan to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow it to set completely.

  8. Serve: To serve, run a knife around the edge of the flan to loosen it. Place a serving plate upside down over the flan mould or ramekin and invert it to release the flan onto the plate, revealing the beautiful caramel layer on top.

Enjoy this Classic Creamy Caramel Flan as a delightful ending to any meal! The combination of the smooth custard and the rich caramel is sure to make this dessert a favourite.
